Insomnia and Sound Therapy

Insomnia is a miserable experience isn’t it? Our ability to function at our best depends on us getting ample sleep – and good, restorative sleep at that. When that doesn’t happen, not only do we feel physically and mentally tired, but cognitive function can be affected, as well as our emotional health.

Insomnia is defined as regularly having problems sleeping. You might struggle to get to sleep, or to stay asleep, or still feel tired after sleep. Everyone has trouble sleeping from time to time, but if it happens regularly, you have insomnia. And it can last for months, or even years.

During my training in sound therapy, I carried out research into insomnia and how sound therapy can help. What I found is that sound therapy can be very effective in helping insomniacs sleep better. Many of the people who took part in the research had suffered for years – some for decades – and were experiencing little improvement, even when they were taking prescribed medication.

So, if sleeping tablets can’t help, how on earth can sound therapy? Well, it’s quite simple. Sound therapy doesn’t aim to make you sleep, it aims to resolve the issues that are at the root of the problem. This helps even when that root is thirty years in the past. We discuss your sleep issues, and look at what was happening when they began. And then we explore that further, and deal with the issues we find there.

It takes several sessions to make a real difference, which is why I offer a treatment package to really help get to grips with your sleep issues.

The package includes:

  • An initial 2 hour appointment, in which we discuss the issues and explore them. We’ll do this partly through discussion and partly through visualisation (don’t worry, it will all be explained!). During this appointment you’ll receive 45 minutes of sound therapy, and you’ll be given a task to do between sessions to help you further.
  • 3 further one hour appointments (ideally one week apart), during which we’ll review how things are going, and make any adjustments necessary. You’ll receive 45 minutes of sound therapy in each session.
  • You’ll also get an essential oil blend to help you, made during the first appointment so it’s targeted to your specific needs
  • Any tools needed to complete your inter-session tasks. This includes a beautiful hand-made journal for keeping a diary during your treatment. It may also include a mala and access to my “client resources” vault of videos and audio files, meditations etc.
